Fantastic September

September 11, 2010

After the Father’s day dinner, one of my tooth fillings fell off. That is, a big hole re-appears in the right middle of my last third big tooth. I was planning to fix it when I could get back to China as I didn’t think I could afford seeing any dentists here. Oz disagreed and arranged an appointment for me with his dad, a dentist who owns his denture clinic. His dad, G, offered to see me during his lunch break on last Friday.

I was struggling to death of course. On one hand, it’s so embarrassing that oz’s dad would see into my mouth. On the other hand, I was still not sure how much G would charge me. Oz was not sure the cost as well. Following their logic, business is business after all. Oz asked me to transfer one grand into my access account in case, which I did.

On my way to Sandringham, those beautiful beach views were not very helpful to ease my nervousness. Once I got there, G asked me to fill in a form with my personal and medical information. Under the emergency contact, I put oz’s name.

During the process, I finally get the joke oz’s mom, M, said before. When people ask what her occupation is, she always responses she sucks. As a dental nurse, she uses a pumping machine to get rid of patients’ slaver in their mouths.

Not only did G re-fill my tooth, he also cleaned all my teeth thoroughly, including flossing. I confessed I have never used floss before, so he taught me how to. G warned me half-jokingly if I didn’t floss my teeth every day, I would lose all my teeth in my fifties, and then he gave me a bunch of free stuff, tooth-paste, tooth brush and floss. It feels so good being a dentist.

Finally, I offered to pay. G said no instantly. Additionally, he scheduled another time on Monday in order to fix another bad tooth of mine. Meanwhile, M reminded me only to buy a one-way train ticket on Monday as they would give me a lift after seeing me. I told oz on my way to the city I felt so happy, the warmness inside of me.

Oz is now marking IQ assessments two metres away. I can’t imagine how much I love that cute face. What a fantastic September in the year 2010.
